The consultative session for the transgender issue was organised by Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) in collaboration with IP3 at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS). The meeting was chaired by Honourable member Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, General Secretary YPF. The participants included members from transgender community, officials from FDI and was attended by Chair Of Standing Committee on Human Rights Babar Nawaz.
The members of YPF including Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Ms. Romina K Alam visited the FDI Pakistan to discuss issues faced by the transgender in Pakistan. The YPF agreed to work upon with police and other government departments to respond quickly to help the transgender. Further collaborative meetings and discussions are still underway.
Further discussions were held on meetings with Oxfam Novib with the Benazir income Support Program on the topic of Youth Empowerment Through IT Skills.
The meeting discussed Youth empowerment through IT Skills. The concept is to develop such an organisation/group where youth will be trained to provide Life Skills Education (LSE) through IT. These young boys/girls/trans will be trained around skills such as app development, social media marketing, web designing and others (Courses not more than 6 months). They will develop creative and interactive messages around LSE using their IT skills to further disseminate among youth.
The purpose was to share the preliminary findings of its National Human Development Report 2016 on Youth. Dr. Adil Najam, the lead author of the Report presented the key recommendations of the Report to the Respected Young members of the Parliament and asked for their feedback. The Report discusses the opportunities and challenges that the youth bulge in Pakistan provides.
Parliamentarians, policy makers, academia, civil society and the media participated and discussed in detailed on policy and legislations around child marriages in the country. Youth ambassadors also participated to represent youth of Pakistan.
The Young Parliamentarians Forum YPF and PIPS in cooperation with OXFAM and Chanan Development Association, organised a day long seminar attended by more than 140 cross party Members of Parliament, civil society, academia and youth to discuss the rising issue of violence against women and its prevention.
